Ulla Darni is as vivid and beautiful as her art. Ulla works from her Catskill Mountains studio in New York.
Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Smith Vargas Fine Art to be presented with her masterpieces:
Original Flat Glass paintings, prints, Lamps, and documentary.
I had the privilege to met Ulla, when I was a graduate student at Parsons/The New School (back in the 90’s).
Later, when I was faculty of digital film in New York I produce, direct and edit a documentary about her extraordinary life and spectacular art. She is a seemingly boundless source of beauty and peace; which allows her to create masterpieces that DEFINE light and has the power of healing.
Ulla Darni is a native of Denmark, and a source of stirring creativity.
Hailed as “Today's Tiffany” she is widely regarded as the modern master of reverse-painted glass.
Collected throughout the world, Ulla's work adorns palaces, estates, museums, galleries, and beautifies every installation;
including Smith Vargas Fine Art at the Backstreet Art District in Palm Springs, California.
After completing her young career as porcelain painter, her luck, beauty, and vivacious personality led to a career on stage and screen. Ulla worked as an actress for seven years alongside numerous film stars, the culmination of which was a co-starring role in the international award winning film, “The Duel”.
Ulla moved to New York City and began studying painting with renowned artist mentors at New York's Art Student league
She won prize’s and recognition for her paintings on canvas.
A chance visit by an antique dealer led Ulla to painting on glass. Her colorful, artistically rendered hand painted glass lamps were stunning, unique and became highly collectable.
Demand for Ulla's work led to representations and installations throughout the world and the introduction to her husband and business partner glass sculpture Lawry Swidler.
When Ulla is not painting, she is applying her vision and talents to jewelry, fashion design, ceramics and playing the harp.
